– Don't fear to check an user's post history if you suspect that he is responsible for more than one rule-breaking post. – Topicless boards barely require moderation beyond following the global rules, while SFW boards and boards with defined topics require to clean derails and excessive shitposting more often.
– Depending on the topic of the board, you may have to be more or less strict with the way you operate. – Just look at how people bully Acid and Mark for examples of why this is a bad idea. – Don't create a persona out of yourself, either by using your name or capcode all the time or by avatarfagging. – You can also use the Overboards and the Multiboard (the button with an infinite symbol). – Always check the "Latest postings" page at least once a day. You can do it this way: "Visit (/boardURI)" – Use the board message (the red text that some boards have at the top of the page) to link similar boards. Just don't use something that produces eyesores (like Vivian). – Using a theme other than the default Yotsuba B makes your board more distinctive. Save captchas per post for emergencies like receiving massive amounts of spam. – Enable captchas for new threads but disable them for replies to avoid slowing down discussions. – Globals may help you with things like spam, but you should state that you allow them to interact with more specific problems in order to avoid a conflict of interests. – Try to get additional staff as soon as possible to cover you when you are offline, specially if your board is centered around a "controversial" topic like a weird/niche fetish or certain politic opinions. Don't delete posts from the meta thread unless they broke a global rule (CP, spam, underage user, etc.). – Always keep a meta thread open so all autistic bitching can be redirected to it. If you marked it as (N)SFW only an admin will be able to alter that. – You can't change the nature of a board. Board that have been abandoned can be claimed and transferred to your account after emailing the admins.
– Check if nobody else has created a board for your particular topic.
